Volkswagen Diesel Emission Fraud

The Volkswagen diesel emission fraud scandal appears to affect about 482,000 VW sold in the United States.  In an effort to placate and ease tensions with its dealers and customers, VW offered to give $1000 in gift cards and credits to its customers.

All registered owners and lessee of a Volkswagen diesel car as of November 8, 2015 have until April 30, 2016 to register for the $500 gift card, $500 in credits for service or products from a dealer, and three years of free 24 hours road side assistance.  After you register for the benefits, you have to take your car to a dealer to activate your gift card to prove that you are a registered owner.

The gesture is an attempt by VW to win back some goodwill for the company as a result of the emission cheating fraud software.  This might be a good step in the minds of some customers but to California class action attorneys like Peter Bezek, who is seeking to obtain class action status against Volkswagen, this isn’t enough.  Mr. Bezek believes that VW must buy back the vehicles for the price the customers originally paid for them.

If he is right on his legal position, this can get very costly for VW not just in the United States but world wide where some many as 11 million VW and Audi cars are involved in the fraud.
